Strum Pattern:
Time Signature: 4/4

Option 1: Fast strumming - Every part has a different strum expressing the mood of the song. It varies from a typical blazingly fast mariachi down-up-down-up strum of the intro, to a more mellow joyous |DU_(UDU)| and |DU_(DU)| to a sad and suspense filled arpeggio. Even a few |(DD')(DD')|DD(D')_| The whole enchilada. Its really not practicable to write down the strum line by line. It is hoped that the reader will listen to the song and play it according to the pointers given here.
(Explanation - 4 beats per meter; the stroke that is marked with a (') is played and muted (D' here); the beats in brackets are divided into subunits of equal duration as noted).

Option 2: Slow: Play each chord as a are single down stroke. Works best if you wish to sing along.

Playings Tips and Song Notes:
The chords are very standard. It has very strong hint of Mexican as reflected in the strum. Its one of those great story songs (albeit a summary of the film). The strum is very signature though it changes wildly.

It may lack chord the variations of jazz, but this one song can teach a player the finer points of guitar strumming and is a must learn.

The tabs of the song are just as signature, albeit "borrowed at verbatim" from from George Benson's "We As Love" from the album "Weekend in LA."

Plain Lyrics:
Ek hasina thi;
Ek deewana tha;
Kya umar, kya samaa, kya zamana tha.
Ek hasina thi, hasina thi;
Ek deewana tha, deewana tha;
Kya umar, kya samaa, kya zamana tha.

Ek din woh mile,
Roz milne lage.
Ek din woh mile,
Roz milne lage.
Phir mohabbat huyi,
Bas qayamat huyi.

Kho gaye tum kahan,
Sunke yeh dastaan.
Log hairaan hain,
Kyunki anjaan hain.

Ishq ki woh gali,
Baat jiski chali,
Us gali mein,
Mera aana, jaana tha.

Ek hasina thi;
Ek deewana tha.
Kya umar thi, kya samaa tha, kya zamana tha;
Ek hasina thi;
Ek deewana tha.

Oos hasin ne kaha,
Oos hasin ne kaha,
Suno jaanewafa -

Yeh falak, yeh zameenm
Tere bin kuch nahin.
Tujhpe marti hoon main,
Pyaar karti hoon main.

Baat kuch aur thi,
Woh nazar-chor thi.
Uske dil mein chupi,
Chaah daulat ki thi.
Pyaar ka woh fakat
Ek bahana tha.

Ek hasina thi;
Ek deewana tha.
Kya umar thi, kya samaa tha, kya zamana tha;
Ek hasina thi;
Ek deewana tha.

Bewafa yaar ne,
Apne mehboob se,
Aisa dhoka kiya.
Aisa dhoka kiya - dhoka dhoka,
Aisa dhoka kiya - dhoka dhoka,
Aisa dhoka kiya,
Zaher usko diya.
Dhoka! dhoka! dhoka! dhoka! dhoka! dhoka!
Zaher usko diya.

Mar gaya woh jawan.
Mar gaya woh jawan.
Ab suno dastaan -
Janm leke kahin,
Phir woh pahucha wahin.
Shakl anjaan thi,
Katl hairaan thi.
Saamna jab hua,
Saamna jab hua,
Phir wahi sab hua.
Uspe yeh karz tha.
Uska yeh farz tha.
Farz ko karz apna, chukana tha.
